Does your heart break?

Children sleep in the streets,

Hunger crushes thought.

Glue destroys the pain,

and the brain, lungs, nose, and throat.

People are depressed,

dying inside more than outside,

confused and hurting

hoping that they aren't as alone as they feel.

Drugs plague the world

beyond inner-city, but rural

homes are destroyed

as meth makes someone a buck.

Cancer kills,

It wounds and scars

everyday becomes a battle

as science rushes forward without a cure.

I look over all this word

hurting, pain, sorrow,

brokeness, wrongness, despair,

Does it break your heart?

It broke God's, and he has promised to fix it...

...If only we cry out to Him in prayer.

  1. Yes, it broke mine a long time ago. Tonight Mark and I are exhausted beyond belief because of how God called us to work for the families effected by all of this. We have verbally mentioned tonight our heaviness and burden in the work we are called to do. Thank you for the reminder of why we do what we do, though. Sometimes in the midst of the chaos we can momentarily lose sight of the "why".
